ROUND 6 June 22nd

Members,

This week we borrow a line from a well-known song, 3 out of 4 aint bad, well almost like the known line, sorry Meatloaf.

The last minor round has been played in what was again sparkling weather for Winter we certainly have been blessed weather wise as this was a concern for all of us organising the competition during the traditional Winter months.

For the last round three of our teams assembled to take on the locals at Sandy Creek with the all-conquering Division 3 Blue team going to the tip of Lefever Peninsular to take on North Haven.

Our Division 1 team started proceedings at Sandy Creek on the 10th Hole with the incentive that if they could topple the locals they would secure top place and the coveted bye in the first week of the finals.

This week we saw Chantha Kong, Alex Martinson, Young Bok Kim, Atila Koca, Toby Maddern, Steven Darch, Paul Haines and Barry Smith representing the club.

Home ground advantage is a significant factor in this competition and is reflected in a lot of the results this season, but this time round home ground advantage meant nothing at all to this crew.

These guys toiled long and hard and after what was apparently the putt of the season managed to walk away with the chocolates winning the match with a heart attacking 4 ½ to 3 ½ well done guys, you get the week off next Sunday now.

On the 1st tee was our Division 2 group who had already secured 1st place, so the incentive was not at the same level for the Division 1 group.

Our players this time around were Brett Murphy, Frank Kong, Anthony Clapp, Ian George, Luciano DeGuia, Luis Madriz, Kelly Kim and Brad Snape.

The games in this match were tight but it was the locals who managed to handle the course better, our team went down 3 and 5.

Following on the Division 3 North (Red) group looking to come away with a solid result to secure their place in the finals.

This week Brian Roberts, Huynh Van Lahn, Jinwoo Lee, Louise Park, Greg Forrest, Darryl Treasure, Frank Ballard and Murray O’Neil went into battle.

Whilst the team worked hard they ended up going down 3 ½ to 4 ½ but managed to secure second place on the ladder and a game next week in the Semi-Final.

Across Port Adelaide way, no mention of footy here, our Division 3 South (Blue) assembled to take on North Haven on their own deck.

This week must have felt like a dead rubber as they had already secured top place but none the less Kamal Haider, Jeong-ae Choi, Peter Adams, Shahid Bhati, Damwon Kim, Robert Berg, Threetip Wongsala and Susan Bywaters suited up to close out the season.

The end result was a little unexpected but had little impact on the table, they went down 3 ½ to 4 ½ .

What a successful year as NAGC topped 3 of the 4 competitions groups that we put teams into this season.

All the results are posted on the NAGC website at SA Public Courses Pennant – SAPCPGA Season 2025.

So now we get down to business in the Major Round, next week’s matches to be played at the Barossa Valley course are:-

Division 1: Sandy Creek vs Mawson Lakes (North Adelaide has the bye and are straight to the Grand-Final)

Division 2: North Adelaide vs Sandy Creek (South) and API vs Sandy Creek (North), winners to the Grand-Final

Division 3: North Adelaide Blue vs North Adelaide Red and Sandy Creek vs North Haven, winners to the Grand-Finals

An exciting finish coming up to this season with NAGC guaranteed to have representation in 2 of the 3 Grand-Finals, one of our Division 3 teams will make it, with Division 2 hopeful of joining the party

This week we congratulate Minjee Lee for her success in the Women’s PGA Championship, well done to her and her inspiration to Women in Golf.

Looking forward to a favourable report next week, happy golfing.

Regards,

Ian George.

ROUND 5 June 15th

Members,

Hello folks, well the penultimate round of Public Course Pennants is now behind us and what a round it proved to be for NAGC.

All 4 teams suited up at home, Division 1 and 2 on the South Course and the 2 Division 3 teams on the North and my oh my didn’t they all perform.

First off on the South was the Division 1 team who took on Regency Park who got the better of us in the first round on their home course.

This week we saw Chantha Kong, Alex Martinson, Atila Koca, Toby Maddern, Steven Darch, Paul Haines, Barry Smith and Joe Scriva doing the thing.

Must say that whilst some games were looking favourable early there was still some work to be done to get the required result and boy oh boy the work got done with the team flushing home a 7 and 1 result, great stuff.

With an interesting, halved, result between Sandy Creek and Mawson Lakes the door has been left open slightly for NAGC to topple the ladder leaders, Sandy Creek, on their home deck and earn the ‘rest’ in week 1 of the finals.

This will require more of the same which we hope they can produce.

Next on the South Course was the Division 2 team who have taken all comers head on this season so far.

With the rotations we saw Brett Murphy, Frank Kong, Anthony Clapp, James Abiero, Luciano DeGuia, Zac Baig, Luis Madriz and Brad Snape go into battle against the team from Kapunda.

This season has gone well for this team as they cruised also to a 7 and 1 win locking in top spot on the ladder for their group and will be competing in the first week of the finals.

Competitions over on the North Course saw the Division 3 North (Red) team going up against the Playford Lakes group.

This week Huynh Van Lahn, Brian Roberts, Louise Park, Darryl Treasure, Jamie Chambers, Murray O’Neil, Carla Hirst and Frank Ballard made up the team.

The team managed to continue their recent strong form and walked away with a win 5 and 2 with 1 game halved and appear to be in a strong position to be in action in the first week of the finals.

Next away on the North Course was our Division 3 South (Blue) team who have shone this season taking on the team from Regency Park.

This week’s team was Kamal Haider, Jason Yap, Peter Adams, Shahid Bhati, Brett Heaven, Robert Berg, Threetip Wongsala and Susan Bywaters and they managed to keep the norm in check.

The team battled strongly against the opposition and managed to record a 5 and 3 win which leaves them well out in top position in their section securing a match in the first week of the finals.

You can see all the results which are posted on the NAGC website at SA Public Courses Pennant – SAPCPGA Season 2025.

Cannot thank Roger enough for his efforts behind the BBQ, there is something comforting about a sausage in bread with a drink post round to discuss the ins and outs of the days play, thank you very much from all of us Roger.

We have now completed our hosting duties for this season, and I would like to thank all of those who have donated their time to make sure our local events have gone without a hitch, well done crew.

Last round for PCP 2025 this coming weekend with Division 1, 2 and 3 Red up against Sandy Creek’s teams and the Division 3 Blue team will do battle at North Haven, best of luck to all players.

Well done to JJ Spaun, what a finish, until next time happy golfing.

Regards,

Ian George.

ROUND 4 June 1st

Members,

Well, well how good were the Crows Saturday nig ……… ahem sorry, Another week of Public Course Pennants is behind us and gee whiz NAGC certainly got down to business much like the Pride of SA.

This week we had the joy of all 4 teams playing at home under bright blue skies and didn’t they manage to whip up the competitive juices prior to the start of play and the results played out accordingly.

Our Division 1 team started off on the South Course taking on last week’s opponents Mawson Lakes only this time the home ground advantage was with our team.

A slight change due to illness so we welcomed in another soldier, the lineup was Chantha Kong, Atila Koca, Yung Bok Kim, Toby Maddern, Steven Darch, Paul Haines, Barry Smith and Joe Scriva.

The NAGC team got down and dirty and streaked away (figuratively speaking) to reverse last week’s result with a significant 7 and 1 win which has elevated the team on the ladder and arrested what could have been a shaky position, well done to all.

Second up on the South Course was the Division 2 team looking to continue their, so far, good form.

Brett Murphy, Anthony Clapp, James Abiero, Ian George, Luciano DeGuia, Zac Baig, Luis Madriz and Kelly Kim suited up against the Mawson Lakes crew.

The team was able to continue their rich vein of form and were able to cross the finish line with a solid 5 and 3 win.

Over on the North Course the Division 3 North (Red) team kicked off first also doing battle against Mawson Lakes.

This week Huynh Van Lahn, Brian Roberts, Jinwoo Lee, Greg Forrest, Gareth Bridges,  Murray O’Neil, Carla Hirst and Frank Ballard represented the club.

Happy to report that the team came away with a win again recording a 5 and 3 scoreline.

Lastly the Division 3 South (Blue) team headed out on the North Course against the Penfield crew they managed to take care of in the last round.

There were a couple of changes to last week's successful lineup which did not appear to affect their strength, Kamal Haider, Jason Yap, Peter Adams, Shahid Bhati, Brett Heaven, Robert Berg, Threetip Wongsala and Susany Bywaters managed to keep the norm in check.

The result was not the clean sweep they had last time at home but a very respectable 5 and 1 with 2 games halved win.

As always the results are posted on the NAGC website at SA Public Courses Pennant – SAPCPGA Season 2025 where you will see NAGC leading the way in a couple of divisions..

As always the sight and smell of the BBQ roaring away is a great way to complete the battle and all players appreciate the efforls and thank those on duty, well done Roger and Se Young.

We break now for the Long Weekend but will back into battle June 15th with all 4 teams at home again and if would be great to have some support for our players out on the course and there is always a chance to help out on the BBQ, contact Roger Godwin if you can assist.

Til next time happy golfing oh and go Crows.

Regards,

Ian George

ROUND 3 May 25th

Round 3 saw 3 the Division 1, 2 and 3 North (Red) teams taking on the locals at Mawson Lakes while the Division 3 South (Blue) team ventured out to Penfield to see what opposition they could muster after their fantastic effort at home against North Haven.

The NAGC Division 1 team got proceedings underway nice and early against Mawson Lakes’ finest a group that has provided stiff opposition in the past.

This time the team line up was Chantha Kong, Alex Martinson, Yung Bok Kim, Atila Koca, Toby Maddern, Steven Darch, Paul Haines and Joe Scriva.

Things were tight all day and went down to the wire with our team battling for a 3 and 5 loss

Next up was the Division 2 group primed and ready for a big showing away from home.

This week’s team consisted of Brett Murphy, Frank Kong, James Abiero, Luciano DeGuia, Luis Madriz, Brad Snape, Andrew Ross and Kelly Kim.

Against local knowledge the team battled well and managed to secure a tight but rewarding win 4 ½ to 3 ½.

Last to go was the Division 3 North (Red) team also taking on the Mawson Lakes group.

The lineup this week was Huynh Van Lahn, Brian Roberts, Jinwoo Lee, Darryl Treasure, Murray O’Neil, Gareth Bridges, Nerida Saunders and Frank Ballard.

Again our crew toiled well in the trenches and were able to come away with a well-deserved 5 and 3 win to elevate themselves off of the foot of the ladder.

Finally the Division 3 South (Blue) team packed the travelling bag and headed off to Penfield to see if they could continue their sparkling form from the previous week.

The successful lineup changed from the previous week, this time round was Jeong-ae Choi, Kamal Haider, Chin Nguyen, Jason Yap, Peter Admas, Shahid Bhati, Damwon Kim and Robert Berg.

Well they were not able to back up the clean sweep but managed a respectable 6 ½ and 1 ½  win to keep them out in front of the table.

As always the results are posted on the NAGC website at SA Public Courses Pennant – SAPCPGA Season 2025.

Looking forward to Round 4 where all 4 teams will do battle on our home courses taking on their Round 3 opponents, a couple of our teams have some work to do elevate themselves into the running for the finals so hopefully we can report 4 successes in the next edition.

Hopefully the weather gods will look after us and it will be fine enough for some of our members to come along and offer support to our teams as they represent the club.

There will be opportunities for some volunteering on the BBQ if you can spare some time so please contact Roger Godwin if you can assist.

As always happy golfing.

ROUND 2 May 18th

After a short break to celebrate Mother’s Day the Public Course Pennants season resumed for us at the soon to be renovated ?? North Adelaide Golf Course, home away from home for some of us.

All 4 North Adelaide teams competed at home with the Division 1 and 2 teams on the South Course and the 2 Division 3 teams doing battle on the challenging North Course.

NAGC Division 1 team resumed the ongoing challenge with the Sandy Creek crew with the morning chill evaporating into the almost perfect day.

The round 2 team line up was Chantha Kong, Alex Martinson, Yung Bok Kim, Toby Maddern, Atila Koca, Paul Haines, Steven Darch and Joe Scriva.

The guys used their local knowledge to their best advantage and were able to cruise away with a well-deserved win scoring 4 up 2 down and 2 halved.

Our Division 2 team followed the Div 1 guys taking on Sandy Creek in what was glorious conditions especially for the middle of May.

This week’s team consisted of Brett Murphy, Frank Kong, Anthony Clapp, Ian George, Luis Madriz, Andrew Ross, Kelly Kim and Mihyun Park.

Again, local knowledge helped our team, except for when the flat stick was in use,  which battled hard against some stiff opposition to come away with a 5 and 3 win.

First off on the North Course was the Division 3 North (Red) team also taking on the Sandy Creek mob.

The team consisted of Huynh Van Lahn, Brian Roberts, Louise Park, Greg Forrest, Darryl Treasure, Murray O’Neil, Jamie Chambers and Carla Hirst.

The match proved to be a challenging one for our team and they suffered the pain of a negative result going down 2 and 6.

The Division 3 South (Blue) team followed the Red team on the North Course taking on the North Haven group.

This week’s team consisted of Jeong-ae Choi, Kamal Haider, Jason Yap, Peter Adams, Shahid Bhatti, Brett Heaven, Damwon Kim and Threetip Wongsala.

To say they cruised is an understatement, well done team coming away with a very impressive clean sheet winning 8 and 0, what a fantastic showing.

Thanks to those who stood at the BBQ to provide us with the after-match delights, greatly appreciated by the players from all teams and to those members who ventured out to support our teams, many thanks.

As always the results are posted on the NAGC website at SA Public Courses Pennant – SAPCPGA Season 2025.

Next weekend we have 3 teams taking on challenging Mawson Lakes course while the Div 3 Blue team will venture out to Penfield to do battle with the locals to see if they can produce another result like yesterday.

Until next week, head down, hit long and straight.

ROUND 1 May 4th

Well May the 4th was with us last Sunday, we channelled our best Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker and got the 2025 season of Public Courses Pennant underway with North Adelaide sending teams to various locations around the state with mixed results from the matches.

This season NAGC is fielding 4 teams in the PCP competition, Divisions 1, 2 North, 3 North and 3 South with the hope of emulating the 2023 results where all 3 shields ended up at North Adelaide after surrendering the Division 1 and 3 titles in last year’s competition.

The North and South chapters for Division 2 and 3 compete against each other for the overall winner of the Division hence only 3 shields are up for the winning.

NAGC Division 1 team suited up bright and early Sunday morning against Regency Park on their home deck.

The round 1 team was Chantha Kong, Yung Bok Kim, Alex Martinson, Atila Koca, (fresh from his runaway success at The Open) Toby Maddern, Steven Darch, Joe Scriva and Paul Haines.

Our team battled hard against the locals, but unfortunately local knowledge must have been the difference going down 2 and 6.

The Division 2 team packed the lunchbox and headed into the arid North to Kapunda to take on the locals on their very well-presented course.

First up challengers were Brett Murphy, Frank Kong, Anthony Clapp, James (Rosewater) Abiero, Zac Baig, Luciano DeGuia, Ian George and Luis Madriz.

Thanks to a couple of the team having a reconnaissance round to scope the course gave us the necessary edge to eventually pull away from the opposition to record a well-earned 6 and 2 win.

Our NAGC Division 3 South (Blue) team took to the park after the Division 1 crew again against the Regency Park locals.

The first up team consisted of Jeong-ae Choi, Kamal Haider, Shahid Bhati, Brett Heaven, Robert Berg, Damwon Kim, Threetip Wongsala and Susan Bywaters.

Well, these guys managed to reverse the result for our earlier team and come away with a solid 5 and 3 win to get the season off in the best possible way.

To round out our PCP teams Division 3 North (Red) ventured out to the Playford Lakes course to match it with the Playford Lakes team.

The team consisted of Huynh Van Lahn, Jinwoo Lee, Brian Roberts, Louise Park, Darryl Treasure, Gareth Bridges, Jamie Chambers and Alan Potts.

With the excitement of the new season and the quest to win the team took it right up to the locals and ended up going down by the barest of margins, 3 ½  to 4 ½.

We take a break now for Mother’s Day and resume the competition May 18th where we will have all 4 teams competing at home, Divisions 1 and 2 will do battle on the South Course and the 2 Division 3 teams will take on the challenging North Course at the sociable start time of 10.00am.

Given the competition time it would be great to have a bunch of fellow members out on the courses to support those that are playing on behalf of NAGC.

Special thanks to the 4 team members that have taken on the duties of Team Captain for the day / season.

All results are posted on the NAGC website at SA Public Courses Pennant – SAPCPGA Season 2025.

Til next time, happy golfing.
