R & A WOMEN’S CHARTER - VISION 25: the future of women and girls in golf
Golf Australia has wholeheartedly embraced the R&A’s Women in Golf Charter, a commitment aimed at empowering more women and girls to reach their full potential across all levels of the sport. Australian golf clubs and facilities are now encouraged to become signatories of this charter, publicly declaring their dedication to enhancing the golf experience for women and girls.
The Women’s Charter aims to:-
- develop and create a more inclusive culture for women and to
- Maximise their potential at all levels of the sport
Did you know that the average age of women playing golf is 63.7 years. And that women only make up 19% of the golfing community nationwide.
This Charter aims to improve opportunities for women and girls of all ages to embrace the game.
North Adelaide Golf Club has had a long history in recognising women. In 1996 the Committee of Management endorsed the motion to accept women as full members. Since this time, women have had the opportunity to play competition golf on Saturday as well as week days. The Club’s partnership with the Adelaide City Council has given women full playing rights including playing golf on Saturday. This was unheard of in 1996.
In 2023, North Adelaide Golf Club in collaboration with the Adelaide City Council undertook the process to become a Signatory to this initiative. Other clubs across South Australia to become Signatories are:-
- Blackwood Golf Club, Glenelg Golf Club, Kooyonga Golf Club, South Lakes Golf Club, The Grange Golf Club, Copperclub at The Dunes, Port Hughes Golf Club, and Mount Osmond Golf Club
The Committee, in collaboration with the Adelaide City Council, is working through a Women’s Action Plan.
