Public Course Pennants – Round 5
On the day of the winter solstice, wins were as hard to come by as daylight for North Adelaide, playing away against arch-rival, Regency Park, in the penultimate Minor Round game.
Match summaries follow and full results including Player of the Year standings are available on the official SAPCPGA Results Page.
Division 1
Best start with the good news, as the Red Shirts had enough in the bank to book a draw with the home side. The visitors opened strongly with four wins from the opening five matches, thanks to Joe Scriva (2&1), Frank Kong (2up), Abassi Mchwala (2&1), and Brett Murphy (6&5).
While the last three matches all went to the 17th hole, the margins were nonetheless decisive in Regency Park’s favour.
Both these sides are battling for one remaining finals spot with one minor round match left. North Adelaide has the edge, so a good result next week will be vital to retain it.
Division 2
A big reality check for our Div 2 side today as their unbeaten run came to an end, 5.5 to 2.5 at the hands of Regency Park, which was sitting third on the ladder coming not this match.
With Div 2 now contested using handicap matchplay, there was little separating the teams on strokes given and conceded. Local knowledge came to the fore though with only our third pairing of Steve Draper (3&2) and Luis Madriz (4&2) prevailing. Mi Park chipped in with a squared result.
That said, North Adelaide’s grip on top spot remains tight going into the final minor round match at home against North Haven next week.
Division 3
A costly loss today, 5.5 to 2.5, has put a dent in North Adelaide’s hold on the top half of the ladder at the business end of the season.
The only bright spots were wins to Darryl Treasure (1up) and Brian Roberts (1up) with a squared match to Zak Baig. Despite the loss, our percentages should hold up making next week’s final home game all the more critical.
Next week, Division 1 is away at Sandy Creek, while Divisions 2 & 3 host North Haven at home.
Good luck to all.
