President's Update on North Adelaide Golf Club and Course

The North Adelaide Golf Club's redevelopment liaison group has met with State Government officials, Council and social club representatives in recent days; and we can advise the following:

Playing golf

• Stage One works on the championship South Course and new driving range are expected to start at the end of April. These will result in the closure of the current 18-hole South Course and several holes of the North Course (#2, 3, 4,16,17,18).

• Competition play and casual access golf will continue on 13 upgraded holes on the North Course. These will have upgraded greens and approaches that will bring them to a standard now enjoyed on the South. The abridged facility is scheduled to open at the same time as the old course closes.

• The 13-hole course will be rated by Golf Australia so that handicap calculations can continue.

• There will be occasions where the course can operate as an 18-hole course using alternative tee blocks on five or six holes. This arrangement will be a few months down the track.

• An interim administration facility for the club will operate adjacent to the old North Adelaide Railway Station. This will later come online as a functioning administration area.

• Members who have 12-month green fee tickets will receive a pro rata refund from the Adelaide City Council (ACC) and then transfer to monthly payments.

• Member credits resulting from prizes won can be spent at the Pro Shop until arrangements are finalised for those credits to be transferred to the club to manage refunds for individual members.

• It's expected that the green fee rates for the abridged 13-hole course will be less than the current fee level, but those rates are yet to be finalised.

• In the transition process, no-one will be out of pocket.

The Course Operator

• When construction starts at the end of April, legislative responsibility for the course transitions to the State Government.

• The State Government intends to ‘licence’ the Adelaide City Council to operate the facility on an interim basis, including the provision of horticultural services.

• As the licensed operator, ACC will have to meet State Government requirements regarding commitments to the resident club, other competition users and casual players.

The Club

• NAGC will have access to a limited space in the temporary facility alongside the railway station.

• We are currently negotiating a lease on commercial premises near the course to enable administrative continuity and capacity.

• The club will retain its competition times and days but will program the next few months in a flexible way until the operators can assess how course usage is working.

• We have proposed to the operators that on-course marshalling will be essential to managing congestion or delays on the abridged course.

• Our Match Committee has been tasked with looking at options for future ‘NAGC days’ at courses around Adelaide to play events such as the NAGC Open and any key trophy events.

Saying Farewell

• NAGC has proposed that a final major event be played on Saturday 18 April, as a double shotgun start/ambrose.

• The proposal was welcomed by state officials and on-course staff.

• The format and options for the day will be coordinated by the NAGC Match Committee. More details will follow soon.

If you have any questions around the changes, please email them to admin@nagc.org.au and we'll generate an FAQ list to allow the information to go to all members.

Thank you for your patience to date.

It’s been a long and complex process and my deepest thanks to John O'Connor and Marlene Boundy on the redevelopment group and the members of our Management Committee's new Transition Planning group.

Also, welcome back to our Secretary/Manager Alan Potts, who enjoyed an odyssey to South America. Many thanks to Tom Ryke, who filled in so well in the January/February period.

Finally, there will be some disruption to your golfing experience, but the end result will be well worth the inconvenience.

Regards

Kevin Naughton
President
North Adelaide Golf Club.
