2019 Public Course Pennant Play

In this third year of Public Course Pennant play, NAGC entered three teams, one in each available division.

Results from each match appear below.

Public Course Pennants Final 2019 - Sunday March 10
Our Division 3 team played in the final today, (Sunday March 10th) at Aston Hills, Mount Barker versus Marion Park G.C.
Unfortunately, despite our very best efforts, Marion Park were the Victors 5-3. No need to mention who were the winners in the team on the day as all who contributed to the team throughout the season were all winners.
Well done to all, and we look forward to next season.

Public Course Pennants report – Sunday March 3rd - Round 6
The final round of the regular season of the Public Course Pennants season took place Sunday March 3rd. All of our three teams were playing away at Regency Park.
Results were:
Division 1 lost 7 games to 1
Division 2 lost 6 games to 2 halved matches.
Division 3 won 5 games to 1 with two halved matches.
The winner in Division 1 was Ruben Wyld.
The golfers who halved their matches in Division 2 were Captain Peter Sahb and Andrew Ross.
The winners in Division 3 were Peter Mayboroda, John O’Connor, Dave Holmes, Kevin Naughton and Murray O’Neill, while Dave Harrington and Ian Probst halved their matches.

All the above means that our Division 1 and 2 teams cannot make the final but the Division 3 team will, finishing in top spot on the ladder having played 6 and won 5 of their matches. Special mention today for the partnership of Dave Holmes and Ian Probst who despite being down for most of their matches came good, with Dave winning his game on the 18th green while Ian was three down with three to play, but got up to finish all square in his match, a great effort.

Also thanks to Carla Hirst who caddied for Murray O’Neill and inspired him to a fine 4 and 3 victory.

The Division 3 final is being held at Aston Hills G.C. next Sunday, March 10th with an 8:00AM tee time, the opposition will be Marion Park Golf Club who defeated us in Round 3. Why not come along and support your team.

Public Course Pennants report February 24 - Round 5
All of our three teams were in action away to Mawson Lakes G.C. on a very hot day. The results were as follows:
Division 1 lost narrowly 5-3, with Alex Martinson, Simon Welsh and John Filmalter claiming victories.
Division 2 lost 7-1 with Jon Rowe the only victor.
Division 3 won 5-2 with one match halved. Dave Harrington, Frank Ballard, John O’Connor, Dave Holmes and Roger Godwin were the victors and Ian Probst halved his game.

With one match to go in the regular season and, as only the top two teams qualify, both the Divisions 1 and 2 teams can’t make the final, but the Division 3 currently sit on top of the ladder with a win or a halved match away to Regency Park next Sunday guaranteeing a place in the final. The final is being held at Aston Hill G.C. on Sunday, March 10th. Tee times to be adcised.

The Saturday after the final, on March 16th, there will be presentation night for the Public Course Pennants teams. Each division will have a player of the season award and there will be a barbecue to be held at the Estonia Club on Jeffcott Street with a 7pm start.
All NAGC members and partners are welcome to attend.

RSVP to Alan Potts (alanpotts2@hotmail.co.uk) by Tuesday, March 12th.

Public Course Pennants report - Sunday February 17 -  Round 4
After a disappointing week last Sunday our teams bounced back in style with both the Division 1 and Division 3 teams winning.

The Division 1 team played against North Haven G.C. and won 6-1 with one match halved. The winners were Simon Welsh, Chantha Kong, Barry Smith, Zack George, Luke Montgomery and Peter Norman. A very special mention though for John Kokkotos who was drafted in from the Division 2 team at late notice due to Anthony Clapp's withdrawal due to a dodgy curry on Saturday night. John managed to halve his match against a much lower handicapper than himself.

The Division 2 team suffered an 8-0 defeat to a very strong Marion Park team. They, Marion Park, don't have a Division 1 team, hence they are very strong in this division. A mention of thanks to Dave Harrington who was promoted to the team to make up the numbers and Dave only lost his match by one hole.

The Division 3 team enjoyed a fine 6-2 win over North Haven. The winners were Frank (broken scooter) Ballard, John O'Connor, Ian Probst, Dave Holmes, Murray O'Neill and Roger (yellow shirt) Godwin. But a very special thank you to Ian Probst, due to Anthony Clapp's withdrawal, Ian received a phone call very early on Sunday morning asking if he was available to play; Ian was the first Division 3 player to turn up!

All of our teams have a chance of making the finals which is being held at Aston Hills on Sunday, March 10th. We have booked a presentation night for our Public Course Pennants Season: it's on Saturday, March 16th at 6.30pm at the Estonia Club on Jeffcott Street. All members are welcome to attend. More details to follow.

Public Course Pennants report – Sunday Feb 10th - Round 3
The third round of the public course Pennant took place with all our teams playing away for the first time this season. Divisions 1 and 2 were against Playford Lakes G.C. while our Division 3 side were up against Marion Park G.C. It’s fair to say that we had a bad day with all our teams losing.

Results were:
Division 1 lost 6 games to 2.
Division 2 lost 6 games to 2.
Division 3 lost narrowly 8 games to nil.

The winners in Division 1 were: Jasmin Kantic, who playing at number two produced a fine victory, Barry Smith making a welcome return to Pennants golf was the other winner.
The winners in Division 2 were: Frank Kong and good old Ted Wilson.
The winners in Division 3 were: no-one, special mention though to Kevin Naughton who only lost his game 1 down. After the match Captain Dave Holmes rallied his team (in the bar) and vowed to do better next week.

Talking of next week, all our teams are playing at home, Divisions 1 and 3 against North Haven G.C. and Division 2 against Marion Park G.C. The first tee time is 9.30, please come along and support your fellow members, they need it! There is a BBQ after golf.

Public Course Pennants report – Sunday Feb 3rd - Round 2
The second round of the public course Pennant took place with all three of our teams up against Sandy Creek G.C. On a blisteringly hot day where there was a world record for the amount of water drunk on a golf course by 48 players.

We had a mixed day regarding results.
Results were:
Division 1 lost by 4 and a half games to 3 and a half.
Division 2 halved their match, 4 all.
Division 3 won by 5 games to 3.
The winners in Div 1 were: Oscar Moss, John Filmalter and Anthony Clapp. Chantha Kong finished his match all square.
The winners in Div 2 were: Damian Garcia, Peter Sahb, Greg Forrest and Steve Draper.
The winners in Div 3 were: Frank Ballard, Peter Mayboroda, Dave Holmes, John O’Connor, and Ian Probst.
A special mention for Oscar Moss who, on his debut for NAGC, secured a good win in Div 1. Many thanks to his Dad for caddying for him. I’m sure that Mr Moss senior made the difference.
The Div 2 team were three games to nil down but came back to halve their match.
The Division 3 team won handsomely 5-3, with a fine captain’s performance from Dave Holmes. Although his opponent continually out drove him, Dave stuck to his guns and came out with what turned out to be a match-winning performance.
Both Div 2 and Div 3 are unbeaten after two rounds with the Div 3 side sitting proudly on top of the ladder. The match results and Division ladders are displayed on the notice board if you would like to have a look.
Next week all teams are playing away, with Div 1 and Div 2 at Playford Lakes , first tee at 8:00 while Div 3 is at Marion Park, first tee at 8:30.

Public Course Pennants report – Jan 27th - Round One
We (NAGC) started the Public Course Pennants season at home to Mawson Lakes G.C. For the first time ever we have entered three teams, one in each division.
Results were:
Division 1 lost by 5 games to 3.
Division 2 won by 6 games to 2.
Division 3 won by 7.5 games to 0.5.
All in all a great performance by our teams.
The winners in Division 1 were: Alex Martinson, Zack George and Jas Kantic.
The winners in Division 2 were: Frank Kong, John Rowe, Andrew Ross, Dave Carr, Greg Forrest and Steve Draper.
The winners in Division 3 (and there were a lot of them!) were: Dave Harrington, Luke Air, Peter Mayboroda, Dave Holmes, John O’Connor, Ian Probst and Roger Godwin. Ichiro Tanaka halved his game, playing a two shot lower handicapper from Mawson Lakes.
Special mention should be made to numbers one and two in the Division 2 team, Frank Kong (who was making is Pennants debut) and John Rowe, as playing as a pair won both of their games 8 and 7.
The Division 3 team overall won by a remarkable 41 holes to nil.
The results sheets are on the notice board if you would like to have a look.
Many thanks to Frank Ballard, John Kokkotos and Peter Adams who came along to support their fellow members, although they weren’t in the teams this week. If anyone else would like to come along and support, the next match is next Sunday (Feb 3rd) at home to Sandy Creek where all three teams will be in action; first tee at 8.45.
